ECOWAS Country introduces VAT exemption on PV panels

Benin has introduced VAT exemption on imports of PV panels. The exemption will be applied to the import of materials, equipment and installation accessories for the deployment of PV and solar thermal systems. The new measure is aimed at increasing access to electricity through more off-grid projects.

The Beninese government has included in the 2020 finance law a measure to exempt the imports of solar panels from the payment of the value added tax (VAT).

TRAINING OF TRAINERS OPPORTUNITY ON SOLAR THERMAL

The Luxembourg Agency for Development Cooperation (LuxDev) in Praia, Cabo Verde, and the Centre for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance of Cabo Verde (CERMI) are pleased to announce a Training of Trainers on Solar Thermal, under the Project “Strengthening the Regional Position of CERMI” financed by the European Union and implemented by LuxDev, in close collaboration with the CERMI.

The Training of Trainers on Solar Thermal will be held at CERMI, Praia, Cabo Verde, from 11th to 22nd of November 2019.

ECOWGEN – Ensuring Gender Parity across the sub region in the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RE & EE) Sector

To promote the participation of women in the RE & EE sector, the African Development Bank (AfDB) provided ECREEE with a grant of USD 1,000,000, through the New Partnership for Africa’s Development Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility Special Fund (NEPAD-IPPF Special Fund), to implement a project entitled: ‘Feasibility study on business opportunities for women in a changing energy value chain in West Africa’. 

The Project is at the stage of Selection of Final Options for the feasibility study.

ROGEP intensifies its call to increase energy access through standalone solar systems

ECREEE – Lome, Togo 18th July 2019 – The Third Regional Off-Grid Electrification Project (ROGEP) has opened in the Togolese capital Lome. The theme of the convergence is ‘Strengthening Partnership for an Accelerated deployment of Standalone Solar Systems in West Africa and the Sahel’.  The conference marks the launch of the implementation phase of ROGEP, which was approved by the World Bank on April 17, 2019.  The two-day forum brings together a diverse group of stakeholders in the energy sector from 19 project countries mainly from ECOWAS member states and the Sahel.
