Energy Experts discuss sustainable solutions to the region's energy situation

ECOWAS – Dakar Senegal 11th October 2017 – Energy experts, Development Banks, Development Partners, Utilities, and private sector investors in the ECOWAS region and beyond on Wednesday 11TH October in Dakar, Senegal began a three-day meeting for the first edition of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF2017). The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is organizing the forum on the theme ECOWAS Energy Self-Sufficiency: the Crucial Role of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.

Launch of Gambia Biochar Network

Banjul, September 27, 2017 - The Executive Director of ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) Mahama Kappiah Wednesday 27thSeptember, 2017 graced the launch of Biochar Network Gambia (BNG) at the Senegambia Beach Hotel in Banjul. The network is constituted by stakeholders in energy, health, agriculture, forestry and environmental protection among others. The launch was officially opened by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy – Mr. Momodou O.

ECREEE PROMOTES TRAINING FOR SOLAR THERMAL EXPERTS

Koforidua – Ghana, September 25th, 2017 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in coordination with its partners, is organizing a 3 day training of trainer’s workshop on solar thermal energy, taking place at the Koforidua Technical University in Ghana.

Capacity Building Workshop CDM Standardized Baselines: opportunities to experience simplified tools for MRV

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in collaboration with the Environment Protection Agency of Liberia, the UNDP/UNEP Global Support Programme (GSP) and the Regional Collaboration Centre (RCC) of Lomé organized a two day national capacity building workshop on CDM Standardized Baselines: opportunities to experience simplified tools for MRV from the 29th to 30th of August at the Golden Key Hotel, in Monrovia, Liberia.

ECREEE to enhance electricity access through renewable energy by 35%

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) has reaffirmed its commitment to increase household access to electricity in the sub-region by 35 per cent through renewable energy sources by 2020.

The International Energy Agency estimates that in order to achieve universal electricity access, mini-grids will have to provide around 40 per cent of new capacity by 2030 with the largest percentage needed in Sub-Sharan Africa.

ECREEE and Partners train Solar PV Entrepreneurs

A five-day regional training on Project proposal development, Marketing Strategies and Access to Finance for Solar Photovoltaic entrepreneurs commenced on Monday 7th August 2017, in Dakar, Senegal. The training was held within the framework of the ECOWAS Renewable Energy Entrepreneurship Support Facility and brought together 29 participants from the French and Portuguese member states in the ECOWAS region.
