Mahama Kappiah distinguished with the Green Future Leadership Award

Mauritius – December 6th, 2017: The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), once more positions itself as a leading regional agency for sustainable energy promotion in Africa as its Executive Director, Mr. Mahama Kappiah, is distinguished with the Green Future Leadership Award at the 7th Africa Leadership Award.

Burkina Faso launches Sahel region's largest solar power plant

West Africa's biggest solar power plant goes onstream on Wednesday as Burkina Faso, one of the world's poorest countries, inaugurates a novel scheme to boost renewables and cut energy dependence on its neighbours.

The 55-hectare (135-acre) plant at Zagtouli on the outskirts of the capital Ouagadougou will be able to churn out 33 megawatts -- enough to power tens of thousands of homes.

Tesla beats deadline, switches on gigantic Australian battery array

Tesla switched on the massive 100MW, 129MWh battery installation it built in South Australia, just as the state is about to head into the grid-taxing summer season. The installation was completed last week, ending a bet between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Australian billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes.

ECREEE at COP23

ECREEE is an observer organization of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change-UNFCCC, and has since 2011, participated in the UNFCCC Conference of Parties - COP meetings held once a year. At the margins of COP23 that took place in Bonn Germany from the 6th to 17th of November 2017, ECREEE was present to amongst other things, showcase its work and advancements in the promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in the West Africa region.

ROGEP Forum in ECOWAS Member Countries

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency ECREEE has embarked on series of workshops in member countries designed to sensitize the general public about the ECOWAS Regional off-Grid Electrification Project (ROGEP). The workshop seeks to create awareness and share information on ROGEP with national stakeholders.

A National Forum on the Promotion of Private Investment in Standalone Solar systems in West Africa and Sahel

ECOWAS GUINEA CONAKRY – 30 October 2017 A national forum on "Promoting Private investment in standalone solar systems in West Africa and Sahel” under the Regional Off-Grid Electrification Project (ROGEP) was held in Guinea Conakry on Monday 30th October 2017. The workshop, was the first of its kind and brought together over 50 participants from the Guinean public and private sectors, financial institutions and other stakeholders in renewable energy.

ECOWAS Training announcement: incorporating gender-sensitivity in energy practices

CTCN/ECOWAS are dedicated to mainstream gender in the development of a climate-resilient energy system in West-Africa. In this context, Partners for Innovation and MDF will be providing trainings to government and non-government organisations active in the West-African energy domain. These trainings will take place in mid-february.

8th meeting of the Committee for Standard Harmonization of ECOWAS (TMC)

ECOWAS BAMAKO, MALI – 14th OCTOBER 2017 - The chair of the Technical Management Committee for Standard Harmonization of ECOWAS (TMC), has stressed the importance of standards and their harmonization to protect people and the environment. Dr. Justin Kickaff was speaking at the 8th meeting of the TMC held in Bamako, Mali from 9th to 14th October 2017. The forum brought together officials from the standards control bodies in ECOWAS member countries designed to enhance quality production in the region.
