World Bank provides $200m facility to support solar off-grid access to electricity in West Africa and Sahel

The Board of the World Bank Group has approved a fund of $200m to implement the Regional Off-Grid Electrification Project (ROGEP). The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is the leading implementing agency of the project, which aims at increasing access to electricity in West Africa and Sahel Region.

Professor Dias Jeremias, Silver-bullet to ECOWAS Human Resources Management Woes

The ECOWAS Human Resources Commission under the leadership of Professor Dias Furtado Jeremias is making substantial evolution in fashioning a proficient, viable and responsive human resources base for the sub-regional body. An accomplished scholar and a seasoned technocrat, Professor Jeremias was appointed as the  Human Resources Commissioner on 1st March 2018 but legally took office at the 80th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS council of Ministers held from 7th – 8th July 2018.

ECREEE and GGGI sign MoU on Green Growth Cooperation in West Africa

Burkina Faso, April 5th, 2019 – The ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) on April 5th, on the sidelines of SEERA 2019, to cooperate on promoting green growth in West Africa.

First National Stakeholder and committee meeting on solar electricity in CAR

Bangui, Central Africa Republic – March 12th, 2019 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is organizing a series of national stakeholder meeting in order to prepare the basis for the implementation of the Regional Off-Grid Electrification Project (ROGEP). ROGEP is a project financed by the World Bank to benefit 19 West African and Sahelian countries to enhance electricity access, through standalone solar systems.

Second Multi-stakeholder Task Force Meeting for off-grid electrification in Senegal

Dakar, March 20th 2019 – The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy of Senegal in collaboration of the ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) organized the Second Meeting of the Multi-stakeholders Task Force for off-grid electrification in Senegal. ARE & ECREEE’s new partnership to help upscale decentralised renewable energy in the ECOWAS region

Abidjan, 13 March 2019 - In light of the urgency to address the barriers hindering the roll-out of renewable energy, ARE and ECREEE have pledged to support SMEs and start-ups to upscale decentralised renewable energy and cross-sectoral collaborations in the ECOWAS region. They will do so by promoting sustainable energy policies, fit-for-purpose financing, innovative technologies and business solutions globally.

Living transformation! Guinea Bissau attracts investment in 20 MW solar PV power station and mini-grids

Under the guiding motto "NOW OR NEVER", the Guinea Bissau Sustainable Energy International Conference, held from 6 to 7 December 2018 in Bissau, had called for USD 700 million of investment. As a concrete follow-up, the country has recently received funding from the West African Development Bank (BOAD) to construct a 20 MW solar PV power plant near Bissau and two 1 MW hybrid mini-grid systems in Gabu and Cachungo. Currently, the African Biofuel and Renewable Energy Company (SABER-ABREC) has published a competitive tender for the submission of proposals.
